When Paul Loding, currently Town of Kingsbury Historian, was a young man, he started to research the route that Lt. Col. Friedrich Baum took from the Burgoyne forces located at Fort Miller, toward Bennington, Vermont. John Sheaff joined him in this search, and they established a basic trail for this ill-fated journey to secure horses, provisions and Loyalist support. Funding for interpretation of this route was provided from the Hudson-Hoosic Rivers Partnership, Lakes to Locks Passage, Stewart’s Shop and the Washington County Historical Society. The completed project included, two kiosks (one on U.S. 4 in the Town of Fort Edward, Hamlet of Fort Miller, and the other in North Hoosick at a Stewart’s Shop) and web-content at:
